A poem written by Ron and Sammy's daughters Gill Harland and Becky
Hambly
Reg Watson offered a series of excellent poems from which the family
could select and he would then read during the service. Gill, however,
wrote some verse of her own and, in conjunction with Becky, the
following resulted and was read by Gill herself with clarity and dignity:
Ode to Sammy as
read by Gill Harland
Sammy was a crazy
Canadian,
Of that we can be sure
As soon as you got
to know her,
She’d leave you wanting more.
The love of her
life was Ron,
As
he was the soul of her heart,
They missed each
other immensely,
Whenever they were apart.
If the whole world
knew about her,
They’d want to be her friend
And if there was a
party going on,
She’d be sure to attend.
Those who didn’t
really know her
You’d be sure to have missed out
On a person who was
truly unique
Of that there is no doubt
By
Gill and Beck
The
second poem was replaced by an inscription that Ron wrote in a book that he
gave to Sammy
